Infant through Pre-K

The Lolie Eccles Early Education Center offers seven classrooms broken down by individual age groups.  Each classroom follows state licensing and NAEYC guidelines to create safe environments where children are able to play and learn in developmentally appropriate ways.  Each classroom has a minimum of 2 teachers at all times.  The children are moved each fall by classroom creating long-lasting relationships with peers their own age.

Infants and Toddlers

Infants are active learners, intent on exploring their surroundings and organizing knowledge about their world. Our caregivers offer a classroom environment full of talking, singing, and reading  and have many opportunities throughout their day, during all activities, to communicate with others and engage in back-and-forth exchanges. Providing a language-rich environment is important to children’s brain development, and can greatly impact early language, vocabulary, reading, and math skills, as well as social-emotional development.

Everything is new and interesting to toddlers. They use their five senses to actively explore the world around them and marvel at their ability to make things happen and do it again and again. This age is about having fun, observing and imitating the actions of adults, exploring and developing independence, and building language and social interaction skills. Our teachers provide a loving and safe classroom that allows our toddlers to engage in a variety of hands-on play experiences, talking, reading, singing, music and movement, outdoor experiences and much more. The classroom environment promotes language, vocabulary, reading, science, and math skills, as well as social-emotional development.

Two's

Two year olds are creative “doers”; they are constantly on the go, exploring and using their senses and motor skills. They show a stronger sense of self and continue to increase their range of self-help skills. Their new discoveries are often followed by “what,” “why” and “how” questions. At this age children enjoy parallel play, playing alongside their peers. Our teachers provide warm hugs and guidance while the children explore the many learning centers, music and movement, story time and outdoor and large motor play. Potty-training is a priority in the class and children participate in potty-parties throughout the day.

  • Children participate in potty training throughout the day
  • Curriculum is tailored towards the individual child with developmentally appropriate play and materials

Three's

Three-year olds learn primarily through hands-on exploration and using all the senses. They are bursting with imagination, creativity and are methodical when solving problems. Three- year olds begin to develop real friendships, but they still need help resolving conflicts. Our preschool teachers create a warm and inviting preschool program that encourages individualized learning and creativity. We use the Creative Curriculum, an evidence and research based curriculum that is aligned with state learning standards. We also incorporate the interests of the children into our child-centered curriculum to create weekly themes with a focus on early literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and creative arts. Lessons are taught through hands-on exploration, play, and teacher directed activities. In addition, children participate in weekly yoga, Spanish, and cooking classes. On any given day you can hear children singing and dancing to music and playing side by side on our playgrounds.

  • Maximum student to teacher ratio is 1:9
  • Curriculum is focused more on preschool learning objectives and includes circle time that reinforces an introduction to structured learning
  • Children will spend time both inside and outside during the day
  • Children participate in field trips throughout the year and parents are welcome to attend

Pre-K

When it comes to learning, four-year-olds are developing greater self-control and creativity. Their pretend play is more complex and imaginative and can be sustained for longer periods. They can also make plans and complete tasks. Four-year-olds want to try new experiences. They also want to be more self-reliant and seek to expand the areas of their lives where they can be independent decision-makers. Our Prek classroom is designed to engage the children’s interests while giving them the ability to make choices. We use a balance of child-initiated learning and Starfall Prek Curriculum, an evidence and research based curriculum that meets or exceeds most state standards. Weekly themes give children a love of learning and a running start in kindergarten by integrating phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, mathematics, science, social studies, creative arts, and imaginative play. Lessons are taught through hands-on exploration, play, and teacher-directed activities. In addition, children participate in weekly yoga, Spanish, and cooking experiences. In the summer children participate in Kinder Camp, a summer program incorporating learning with community field trips and city exploration.

  • Maximum student to teacher ratio is 1:10
  • Curriculum is focused more on preschool learning objectives and includes both teacher-directed and self-led learning
  • Children will spend time both inside and outside during the day
  • Children participate in field trips throughout the year and parents are welcome to attend
