Outings & Activities

When we aren't out and about for each week's themed activities, we will utilize the equipment and many play areas that our YWCA campus offers. We will also benefit from a classroom that is fully furnished with games, books, computers, learning activities, and creative art supplies to embrace your child's interests. We are also partnering with some amazing local programs, including Westminster College's Health, Wellness and Athletic Center and Wasatch Community Gardens.

Week 1 - Welcome to Summer Camp at the YWCA! This week we say hello to summer and say hello to you as we kick off our fabulous summer together. In order for us to be better acquainted, we begin by getting into teams to have a field day of outdoor games and other get to know you activities. We’ll visit the Magna Splash pad where laughter echoes through the air and the thrill of water play never ends. Join us for a hike at Lake Solitude as we embrace nature, tranquility and sunshine! We will end our week visiting Tracey Aviary and learning about our wing feathered friends. Get ready for the best summer yet!

Week 2 - Our second week of summer is off to a good start as we pack our bags and head into our camping themed week! Hike to new limits with us as we travel up to Silver Lake and see the beauty of the great outdoors. Gaze into the sky as we track constellations at the Clarke Planetarium. Lastly, camping week would not be camping week if we didn’t all get to enjoy gooey delicious S’more’s together and learn new fun camp chants that we will use all summer!

Week 3 - Are you ready? Are you suuuuure you’re ready? Because this week is all about-facing our FEARS! That is right, this week we will be testing our limits as we explore all things scary! Get your blind folds on because this week starts with a blind taste test where we will have to guess what we are eating! Brace yourself for a visit with EarthWings, as you get to hold in your hands all the creepy things that love to slither and crawl! And if that doesn’t scare you, then hold on tight because we will see how high you can go as we go to Altitude Trampoline Park and Momentum Climbing. Buckle up, this week is sure to be a thriller!

Week 4 - Put your thinking caps on because this week we will need all the imagination and creativity you got! Get ready to crack the code during Secret Agent week! Put your knowledge and skills to the test as we visit an actual escape room and complete an obstacle course at Midvale Obstacle Course! Join us the Ivory Ridge Splash pad where we’ll test out our covert water slide maneuvers while staying cool under the sun and end our week with a super-secret out of this world riddle scavenger hunt!

Week 5 - Oh, the places we will go! This week are all things action packed! Zoom over to Liberty Park for a day full of sun, playing, and water! Tip toe your way over with us to the Ninja Gym and dive to the deep unknown as we head to the Fairmont pool to swim! Adventure awaits, especially over here at the YWCA!

Week 6 - Welcome to Imaginarium week, where the boundaries of creativity are stretched, and imaginations run wild! Whether it's a visit from a magician, getting up close to the animals at the Hogle Zoo, or experiencing realms of fantasy and inventions at the Leonardo, there is no end to the creativity we will spark together! Get ready to explore, create, and embark on an unforgettable journey of imagination.

Week 7 - Come with us as we explore the wonders of the sea and learn about marine life! A trip to the Living Planet Aquarium is a must as we learn all about life down under as well as dressing up as a mermaid/pirate day! Join us as we soak up the sun and swim at Fremont Pool and play at the Legacy Splash Pad! With sand in between our toes and saltwater in the air, this week is sure to make a splash!

Week 8 - Have you ever wanted to compete in the Olympics? This week you will experience the YWCA Olympics! Our week is jam packed with friendly completion, team spirit, and a celebration of athleticism at whatever level you come with! Cheer us on as we divide into teams a bowl at the University of Utah and visit the Olympic Oval in West Valley! The Olympics would not be complete without a closing ceremony – end on a fun note as we celebrate with an award ceremony!

Week 9 - Join us this week for a thrilling journey into the wonders of the natural world for science week! Get your hands dirty as we build our very own volcano and watch it erupt and overflow. Hypothesize and experiment as we visit Little Beakers and complete a field study at Red Butte Gardens. With minds expanded and imaginations ignited, this week will develop a newfound appreciation for the wonders of science!

Week 10 - As our summer camp journey draws to a close, we're embarking on a thrilling adventure back in time with our Jurassic Park-themed finale! This week, our young explorers will delve into the wonders of the prehistoric world, beginning with a captivating visit to the Natural History Museum, where they'll encounter fossils and learn about ancient creatures. Following that, they'll embark on a cinematic journey as they watch "The Land Before Time," immersing themselves in the epic tale of Littlefoot and his friends. Then, they'll ascend Ensign Peak, channeling their inner paleontologists as they take in breathtaking views and imagine dinosaurs roaming below. Next stop: the Museum of Ancient Life, where they'll come face to face with lifelike dinosaur exhibits and uncover the mysteries of our planet's distant past. And finally, we'll bid farewell to summer with a Prehistoric Blast End of Summer Party, filled with dinosaur-themed games, crafts, and delicious treats, celebrating the unforgettable memories we've made together. It's been an incredible journey, and as we say goodbye to another summer, we'll cherish the adventures and friendships forged in our Jurassic Park wonderland.
